Saint Anne's Desoto

Our Mission

We, the congregation of St Anne Episcopal Church, embracing unity not uniformity, respond to God’s call to be Christ’s presence in the world. Through our common life we dedicate ourselves to worship God, serve others, study the faith and proclaim the Gospel.

All Visitors Welcome

We invite all people to attend our services. One doesn’t need to be an Episcopalian or even familiar with the Episcopal Church to visit. Let us share with you the sacred story of Jesus Christ and the hospitality of our community.

Our prayer is that on this occasion of receiving Communion in the Episcopal Church, all visitors may find their lives strengthened in God’s grace and encouraged to love God and serve both neighbors and strangers in the name of Christ.

Children in Worship

In 1991, the congregation voted to use the name “Saint Anne” because of the significant connection she had with two children. She was the earthly grandmother of Jesus and she was the mother of Mary. Anne played a critical part in Mary becoming the mother of our Lord. Anne must have taught Mary to pray, to listen for the voice of God and to risk a “yes” when God called her. We are obliged to be like Saint Anne for the children in our community of faith. Part of our baptismal promise is that we will do all in our power to support the children of our parish to grow into the full stature of Christ.

Saint Anne offers Children Chapel the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month during the 9:00 a.m. and the 11:15 a.m. services. Children ages 3 to 8 years of age are invited to follow the Children’s Chapel crucifer to their service in All Soul’s Chapel at the beginning of the service. They will return at the Peace to participate in the service of Holy Communion with their families.

Stephen Ministry

“Bear one another’s burdens,
Here at St. Anne, we are blessed by the care we give each other, both through prayer and through practical care. At the Litany of Healing each week, St. Anne parishioners pray for all who are “sick, injured or disabled”; for those who are “lonely, anxious, or despondent”; and for those who experience broken relationships or emotional distress. Anyone who experiences these kinds of problems has the prayers of the community. They also have St. Anne Stephen Ministers available to them.
Stephen Ministry is “laying on of ears.” It is simply having a friend who listens and walks with you through any dark time of your life. This person is with you to love you and to let you know that God and your church family care for you. Stephen Ministry is confidential, one-on-one, and distinctively Christian care-giving ministry. If you are experiencing stress or a problem of any kind, please contact ClayOla Gitane at the church office, phone 972-709-0691, or e-mail her at clayola@saintannedesoto.org to request a Stephen Minister. If you know of someone who might need a Stephen Minister, please talk with them about calling us. We would like to help.
and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Gal. 6:2

Vacation Bible School

All children age 4 years through 5th grade are invited to join us for an old-fashioned Vacation Bible School July 14-17.   VBS will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each evening.  This year’s theme will be “Kids in the Kingdom.”   Children will explore God’s Kingdom as revealed to us in four parables that Jesus told – “The Good Samaritan,” “The Mustard Seed,” “The Prodigal Son,” and “The Wheat and the Weeds.”  Activities will include storytelling, music, games, arts & crafts, and dramatic enactments of the parables in “real life.”  Each night will also include dinner for the children.  Registration is now open and forms can be found on the table outside the parish hall. Adults are needed to run the activity stations and youth in grades 6th through 12th are asked to help lead the children from station to station.  Sign up to be a volunteer on the sheets found outside the parish hall.  Our first volunteer meeting will be held on Sunday, June 8 at 10:30 in St. John. As in past years, there is no charge for attending VBS.  However, donations towards the expenses associated with VBS are always welcome and the cost to sponsor a child for the week is $10.00.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Holy Baptism

Holy Baptism is administered in the context of the Sunday Eucharist. Candidates for baptism are infants & young children of members of the parish and older children and adults who desire to make a mature and public commitment to the Christian faith. Sunday July 27, (St. Anne Feast Day), will be the next available baptismal date. Classes for parents and available godparents of infants and children precede each baptism date. Please contact Mother Nancy, Father George or the church office if you have any questions. Baptismal forms can be found in the Church Narthex, Parish Hall or Office Foyer “Baptismal Forms” mailbox located in the Ministry Building.

Pastoral Care

There are many ways to describe pastoral care but each of us knows when we need it and whether we received it. The hardest part for the clergy and lay representatives of the church is to know who needs pastoral care, whether it is a home visit or a hospital visit. With the new HIPPA laws regarding medical information, clergy no longer receive information from hospitals telling them if a member of their congregation is in the hospital. So many procedures are done as day surgery by the time we hear that some one is in the hospital they have already left. Some of the ways we provide care is by bringing communion, praying for someone who is to have surgery, or making a home visit to someone who is unable to come to church. We are looking at ways in which parishioners can let us know when they need a pastoral visit or prayers before surgery. But in the interim we are asking that you let us know whether you are going into the hospital or if you know someone else who is going to have surgery or needs a visit from the clergy. If you would like communion or prayers please call the church office so that we may be present with you.

Sign Class

Starting June 22 at 10:15 in St. John’s Room you can come and learn how to talk with your hands through Sign Language! Suzy Dunn-Bradford, Ruby Macy and Katrina Marie Meacham will be your guides this summer! Hope you can come and join!

Grief Class

A Grief class will be offered this summer on Thursdays following the 10:30 a.m. Service. It will begin Thursday, July 10 from 11:00 a.m. to noon and there will be four sessions presented by Mother Nancy Smalley. The topics covered will include an overview of what grief is, including the stages of grief, an exploration of different kinds of loss that elicit a grief response, how to redefine the present after a significant loss, and healing rituals and symbolism. Should the class decide to follow up this class with a support group an opportunity will be given to those who would like to explore these topics in a deeper way.
